Illustration Competition

KEYWORDS: dark / candle-lit / shadowy / night / without light / without electricity / natural darkness at night in a woodland...

BRIEF: Please create an illustration which shows, in your own style, that we should all aim to save electricity by turning off lights and standby buttons at night, to decrease light pollution and save energy. You can interpret this in any way you chose, but here are three very quick initial ideas and pointers to help get you started:

  • info on light pollution: www.environmental-protection.org.uk/neighbourhood-nuisance/light-pollution/
  • Step into the countryside - there’s something very peaceful about the absolute blackness of night, knowing you are surrounded by nature. Not a generator / electricity meter buzzing or ticking anywhere!
  • Cities guzzle up energy, and although there is plenty of activity at night, we should be using movement-sensitive lights and timers to save energy.

Please make the artwork fun, rather than being serious or lecturing about it. The magazine is a London- and Brighton-based, with a target audience of 20-40yr old male and female Londoners who are interested in fashion, food, music, film and the space they live in.

We want you to be creative so will leave it at that and hope it’s enough for you to work from with your own style and ideas. You can use words, photos, ink - any medium you want, as long as it conveys the message.

THE OPPORTUNITY: The winning submission will be printed across a double page spread in the October-December issue of EggMag.

SPEC: 300dpi - 360mm (w) x 210mm (h) - please add a 3mm bleed area around the entire illustration, making a total size of 366mm (w) X 213mm (h). And importantly, please bare in mind the VERY deep central gutter - things will get lost in the centre, so work around that. We cannot accept submissions if they fail to adhere to these specifications.

SUBMISSION: Entries should emailed to info@eggmag.co.uk and must be jpgs at 72dpi. Once we have chosen the winning illustration, I will request the high-res version. The winner’s final version must be a TIFF file at 300dpi.

DEADLINE: 31 September 2010.
